On 21 November last year, some hotel prices in India jumped by up to 90% in a single day. It was a wedding muhurat. Across the whole November and December season, Jaipur saw the biggest price rise of any premium city in India: average hotel rates went up 35%, to about ₹10,078 a night (Sciative Solutions, via Soul of Hospitality).
This year, the season starts on almost the same date. Dev Uthani Ekadashi falls on Friday, 20 November 2026, and the first wedding date follows the very next day. Between then and mid-December, Jaipur will host big fat weddings, destination weddings and thousands of guests who cannot find, or do not want, a hotel room.
For Airbnb and homestay hosts, these are the most valuable four weeks of the year. They are also the hardest to run. Here is what is coming, what it means for your home and how to plan for it.
The 2026 Wedding Calendar at a Glance
Wedding planners and panchang calendars list these as the main auspicious dates this season (The Wedding Focus, VJV Now):
- November 2026: 21 (Sat), 24 (Tue), 25 (Wed), 26 (Thu)
- December 2026: 1 (Tue), 2 (Wed), 3 (Thu), 4 (Fri), 11 (Fri), 12 (Sat), 13 (Sun)
That is about 11 dates packed into about three and a half weeks. Then, from mid-December, Kharmas begins and most families pause weddings until mid-January.
Other events crowd the same window:
- Diwali on 8 November (Dhanteras on 6 November) brings family and leisure travel first.
- Tulsi Vivah on 21 November and Kartik Purnima on 24 November, when the Pushkar Fair reaches its peak, keep the Jaipur–Ajmer–Pushkar route busy (Hindu Tone).
- Airbnb's new house rules also take effect on 20 November, so from the first wedding weekend you cannot ask guests to strip beds, run the dishwasher or take out the trash before checkout. Cleaning is now fully on you.
Why Wedding Guests Matter for Jaipur Hosts
India's wedding economy is enormous. The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) estimated that 46 lakh weddings took place between 1 November and 14 December 2025, generating about ₹6.5 lakh crore in business and over one crore temporary jobs (BW Businessworld). Praveen Khandelwal, CAIT's Secretary General, said the season "continues to demonstrate the enormous power of domestic trade."
Rajasthan wants an even bigger share. At an International Wedding and Tourism Conclave in Jaipur in July, Deputy Chief Minister and Tourism Minister Diya Kumari pushed the state to market weddings as a year-round business, with Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur as the anchor cities (I Love Jaipur).
Short-stay data shows why this matters. According to AirDNA (updated 20 October 2026), Jaipur has 3,244 active short-term rental listings, down 20.7% from a year ago. The hosts who stayed are doing better: average occupancy has climbed to 37% (up 40.7%), and average annual revenue per listing has more than doubled, up 125% to about $4,900 (roughly ₹4.3 lakh). Nightly rates, though, have fallen 21% to about $38 (roughly ₹3,300). In other words, Jaipur hosts are earning more by filling more nights, not by charging more.
AirDNA also gives Jaipur a seasonality score of 68 out of 100, which means demand rises and falls sharply through the year. The wedding weeks are the rare window when a host can fill the calendar and charge a fair premium at the same time. For many hosts, a good wedding season can decide whether the whole year is profitable.
Wedding guests also behave differently from tourists:
- They book in groups. Cousins, friends and baraat members want two or three homes near the same venue, often a whole villa.
- They stay short. Many book one or two nights around the function and leave the next morning.
- They arrive late and leave early. Sangeet nights end at 2 a.m. Check-outs clash with the next family's 11 a.m. arrival.
- They need extras. Ironing for lehengas and sherwanis, mirrors with good lights, space for trunks, early tea and extra towels.
Short stays and back-to-back bookings mean more turnovers. A two-bedroom home that usually turns over twice a week may need five or six turnovers in a single wedding week.
The Risk: Busy Calendar, Thin Margin for Error
When hotel rooms jump 35%, guests have a strong reason to choose a home instead. But they are also paying premium prices, and their expectations go up with them. One unwashed towel or a stained sheet on a sangeet morning can become a one-star review that stays with your listing for years.
The new Airbnb rules add pressure. From 20 November, guests only need to do the basics, such as throwing away food and turning off lights. Everything else, from stripping beds to washing dishes, has to be done between checkout and the next arrival. On a muhurat weekend, that gap can be as short as three hours.
Your 7-Step Wedding Season Plan
- Price by date, not by month. Raise rates for the muhurat dates and the nights either side of them. Keep softer rates for the gaps between them, such as 27 to 30 November and 5 to 10 December, to catch overflow and pre-wedding visits. Remember that a sudden 90% jump can feel like price gouging to a guest; a steady, well-explained premium earns better reviews.
- Set a minimum stay on peak dates. A two-night minimum on 21 November, 4 December and 12 December cuts down on one-night turnovers and makes each booking more worthwhile.
- Tell venue-goers you are close. Add nearby wedding venues, hotels and travel times to your listing. Guests search by venue, so "10 minutes from Jaipur Exhibition and Convention Centre" works better than "near the city."
- Triple your linen. Keep at least three full sets of sheets and towels per bed: one on the bed, one in the wash and one ready. Laundries in Jaipur get very busy during the season, so book your service early.
- Stock for wedding guests. Add an iron and board, a full-length mirror, extra hangers, safety pins, a sewing kit, a hair dryer, phone chargers, bottled water and tea and coffee for early mornings.
- Lock your cleaning slots now. Do not wait until the week before. Confirm a cleaning team for every checkout on every muhurat date, with a backup for same-day turnovers.
- Keep photo proof. Take date-stamped photos of each room after every clean. If a group leaves your home in bad shape after a late party, you will need them for an Airbnb damage claim.
