Jaipur has always looked its best at Diwali. This year, more travellers than ever want to see it.
Travel platform Cleartrip says leisure hotel bookings for Diwali are up 135% across India, and Jaipur's bookings are up 174%, nearly three times last year's level. Only Udaipur (+316%) and Bengaluru (+189%) grew faster among domestic destinations (Cleartrip PeekABoo trends tracker, 22 October 2026). The same report found budget stays up 201% and luxury stays up 162%, so demand is strong at both ends of the market.
"Indians are officially swapping traditional metro holidays for offbeat getaways and regional hubs," the report says. For Jaipur, which sits a short drive or flight from Delhi, Mumbai and Ahmedabad, that is a clear opening for Airbnb, homestay and guest house owners. Here is what the numbers mean and how to make the most of the next ten days.
The Dates That Matter
Diwali 2026 is a five-day festival with a weekend built in:
- Friday 6 November: Dhanteras
- Saturday 7 November: Choti Diwali
- Sunday 8 November: Lakshmi Puja, the main Diwali night (Jaipur muhurat about 6:03 to 7:59 PM)
- Tuesday 10 November: Govardhan Puja
- Wednesday 11 November: Bhai Dooj
Many families will take Monday 9 November off and travel Thursday night to Wednesday. That makes the 5 to 11 November window your peak. Expect check-ins to bunch on Thursday and Friday and check-outs on Monday to Wednesday.
Why This Diwali Is Different for Jaipur
Diwali has not always been a big week for Jaipur's hotels. Data firm STR studied 2015 to 2019 and found that Jaipur's revenue per room during Diwali lagged the rest of the month, because many Indians spent the festival at home. Holi, by contrast, brought Jaipur a price premium every year.
That pattern is changing. Indians now treat the festive week as a holiday, and they want a city that celebrates in style. Jaipur's bazaars, including Johari Bazaar, Bapu Bazaar and MI Road, are lit up every year, and the old city glows from Nahargarh. Last year, the HVS ANAROCK Hotel Monitor reported that the extended Diwali weekend "significantly boosted leisure bookings" and that average room rates across India rose 10 to 12% in October 2025.
The traveller is changing too. Cleartrip says flight bookings by 15 to 24 year olds are up 60%, against just 6% for 25 to 34 year olds, and the share of women travellers is up 44%. Younger groups and women travellers book apartments and homestays more than most, and they read reviews closely.
Jaipur's short-stay market has room to grow into this demand. AirDNA (updated 20 October 2026) counts about 3,244 active short-term rentals in Jaipur with 37% average occupancy and an average nightly rate of about $38 (roughly ₹3,300). Most listings are one-bedroom homes. A week of near-full bookings is a real lift for a market where most nights stay empty.
What Changes for Hosts at Diwali
Busy weeks bring bigger problems along with the bigger bookings. Diwali adds four that hosts often miss:
- Staff go home. Many cleaners, cooks and caretakers take leave for the festival, often from Dhanteras to Bhai Dooj. That is exactly when your turnovers are tightest.
- Messier stays. Diyas leave soot and wax, rangoli colour stains floors and fabric, sweets and dry fruits get dropped into sofas, and firecracker ash blows onto balconies and through windows. A normal clean is not enough.
- Back-to-back turnovers. With check-outs bunched on Monday to Wednesday and new arrivals for the wedding season starting soon after, there is little time between guests.
- Fire and noise risk. Crowded rooftops, open flames and late-night celebrations raise the chance of damage and neighbour complaints.
Your 10-Day Diwali Plan
- Check your prices today. If your calendar for 5 to 11 November is still open, compare rates with similar homes nearby. Airbnb's new dynamic pricing tool, which started rolling out in October, can adjust nightly rates within a range you set. Set a sensible floor and ceiling rather than leaving it fully open.
- Set a minimum stay. Ask for two or three nights over the 6 to 8 November weekend so a single-night booking does not block a longer, better-paying stay.
- Lock in your cleaning team now. Confirm who will clean on each check-out day, and have a backup. Do not wait until Dhanteras to find out your helper is going home.
- Stock up early. Markets get crowded and prices rise in the last week. Buy toiletries, tea, coffee, snacks, tissues and spare bulbs by 4 November.
- Double your linen. Keep at least three sets of sheets and towels per bed. Rangoli colour and wax stains may need a second wash, and laundries also slow down at Diwali.
- Add a festive welcome. A few LED diyas, a small marigold toran at the door and a box of local sweets cost little and photograph well. Use LED lights instead of oil diyas indoors to cut fire risk and soot.
- Write clear festival house rules. No firecrackers on the roof or balcony, no open flames near curtains, quiet hours after 10 PM, and where to dispose of cracker waste. Keep a fire extinguisher and first-aid kit where guests can see them.
- Plan a deep post-Diwali clean. After 11 November, book a deep clean for each home: wash curtains, shampoo or spot-clean sofas, remove wax from floors, wipe soot off walls and switchboards, and clear balconies and AC grills of ash.
- Share a local guide. List lit-up markets, the best viewpoint for the city lights, and when traffic in the Walled City is worst. Guests remember hosts who help them plan.
- Keep the calendar open for the wedding season. The marriage season starts soon after Diwali, so a fast, clean turnover on 11 and 12 November puts you in place for the next wave.
Turn the Festival Into Five-Star Reviews
A 174% jump in bookings is good news, but only for the hosts who are ready. The homes that win this Diwali will be the ones that stay clean, safe and well stocked through a week of guests, sweets and celebration, and then reset fast for the next booking.
At Swabha, we help Jaipur hosts run spotless, guest-ready homes with turnover cleaning, linen management and restocking. Our team works through the festive week, handles diya soot, rangoli stains and post-Diwali deep cleans, and shares photo records after every visit, so you can enjoy Diwali with your own family.

Booking growth figures are Cleartrip's own platform data for Diwali bookings made so far, compared with the same period last year as reported; individual results will vary. Rupee figures are approximate at about ₹88 to the US dollar. Check local district orders on firecracker timings before advising guests.
